Avoiding DAD for Improving Real-Time Communication in MIPv6 Environments

چکیده
Current specification of address configuration mandates the execution of the Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) mechanism to prevent address duplication. However, a proper support for real time multimedia applications in mobile IPv6 nodes is undermined by the disruption imposed by DAD. In order to overcome this limitation, the usage of randomly generated IPv6 Interface Identifiers without previously performing DAD is proposed, based on the statistic uniqueness of the addresses generated through this method. The address duplication risk is quantified through the calculation of the probability of an Interface Identifier collision among the nodes sharing a link. The calculated probability is deemed to be negligible compared to other causes of communication failure, such as network outages.

Performance Measurement of Real-Time Mobile Communication in an IPv6 Testbed
This paper presents some experimental results on the performance of real-time mobile communication in an IPv6 testbed. For real-time multimedia communication, we adopt Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as signaling protocol and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) to support seamless connectivity. While performance measurement of real-time mobile communication consists of several factors, we focus here on the h...

With the advent of technology, a large number of wireless and mobile devices are being connected to the internet increasingly giving the users access to the internet while on move. This mobility has been supported through the Internet Protocol known as Mobile IP, allowing the users with mobile devices to have continuous network connectivity to the internet without changing their IP addresses wh...
متن کاملEnhanced Handoff Latency Reduction Mechanism in Layer 2 and Layer 3 of Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) Network
Next Generation Networks (NGN) both static and mobile are expected to be fully Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) based. Mobility in IPv6 (MIPv6) network was designed to provide Internet services to end users at anytime and anywhere. However, MIPv6 is not widely deployed yet due to handoff latency and other limitations leading to packet loss and Quality of Service (QoS) degradation for real tim...
متن کاملVMIPv6: A Seamless and Robust Vehicular MIPv6 for Vehicular Wireless Networks and Vehicular Intelligent Transportation Systems (V-Winet/V-ITS)
With the rapidly increasing demand of traffic applications, the need to support seamless multimedia services in the Vehicular Wireless Networks and Vehicular Intelligent Transportation Systems (V-WINET/V-ITS) is growing. Several mobility support protocols such as the Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and the fast handover for the MIPv6 (FMIPv6) have been developed to support seamless handover. However, MIPv6...
متن کاملImplementation of Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 for Linux
For Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) to be adopted for real-time flows such as Voice over IP (VoIP) applications, handover disruption must be greatly reduced. Currently, MIPv6 handovers can cause packet delay and/or packet loss for many hundreds of milliseconds. The maximum acceptable disruption for real-time voice traffic is in the tens of milliseconds. Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) attempts to reduce ...
